Residential Work

Q: I am struggling to get new customers. I have been in the industry for 12 years, have had my license for four months. Started off great (big back-log). Customers have been very satisfied with work. But now I have no work. I know the economy is bad, but what advise do you have to generate more business in the residential market (driveways, patios etc..)?
Thanks,
Jim

A: Jim,
I appreciate your question and I an truly sorry that times are not the best for you. I thank you for continuing to visit... I recognize you from the rebar calculation you asked me about.
I spoke to a friend the other day. He has a directional drilling business and is having trouble generating new business right now, as well. You are definitely not alone.
I wish I could give you the magic formula to lift things up, but our present economic state continues to be miserable. Typically, the commercial and residential building sectors move in opposite directions... if commercial construction is up, then residential is down. Presently, however, things are so bad that EVERYTHING is down.
There is a glimmer of hope though, Jim. Some big time CEOs think that we hit the bottom a couple of months ago and things will get better. How quickly? I, or anyone, would be foolish to even venture a guess.
I may have some ideas for you to consider to help you generate additional business during this tough time, but I need to know a bit about how you currently market your services:
How do you typically advertise?
Do you have a website?
Do you have a marketing budget?
Please let me know and I will do all I can to help.
Keep persevering,
Alan
