Concrete is a simple, yet dynamic material. It is simply a combination of fine and coarse aggregates, cement, and water.

Admixtures (i.e. air entrainers, water reducers, fly ash, superplasticizers) are often added to the basic components to modify certain qualities (i.e. strength, set time, workability) of the concrete.

Although concrete is a simple material, it is easy to mess it up.

The single most common cause of low quality concrete construction is poor mix design.

It happens so many times- someone starts with mix proportions that are "off" then wastes tons of time and materials trying to magically salvage a crappy mix.

Design the proper concrete mix for your project and you will work more efficiently while achieving better results.

The tried and tested way to assure a strong and durable mix is to ratio your concrete mix using ACI (American Concrete Institute) methods.
